Breast Augmentation Consult. Two women using a laptop together. We have all been in situations where we could use a little moral support. But is your boob job consult one such moment?

Hey, breast augmentation consults can be exciting and scary all at the same time. And facing that alone might not be right for you. But does that mean your significant other should come along for the ride?

Your Decision Is Personal

The question of should you bring someone to a plastic surgery consult or not doesn’t have a universal answer. Maybe you want another opinion on things like implant shape and size. Maybe you have a friend who has already boosted their boobies and you could benefit from their wisdom. Or maybe you really would prefer to go it alone, given the nature of a plastic surgery consult.

However, bringing along your best girlfriend is different than bringing along your significant other.

Your Plastic Surgery Is for You

And only you. Which is where bringing anyone to the consult can get iffy. But bringing a partner really wades into murky waters.

No matter how much you love your partner, don’t let their desires impact your decisions.

If a friend has a differing opinion, whether they are pushy with it or not, it is easier to dismiss it in favor of what you want than it is with a partner. This is a person you are intimate with, and that means they will be up close and personal with the results of your surgery. Unconsciously or not, that tends to give their opinions greater weight.

And, not to get too dark here, ladies, but abusive relationships do exist. Bringing a controlling or abusive partner into a consult is a recipe for disaster. Lots of people are getting surgery, but make sure you are doing it for the right reasons.

Making the Right Choice

Before you decide whether or not your partner should come to your breast augmentation consult with you, consider the following pros and cons.

The Pros:

  • You might feel overwhelmed in the moment. Your partner could help you keep the information you are given straight and make it easier for you to make informed decisions.
  • It is easy to forget to ask questions when you are in the middle of the appointment. Your significant other can hold on to your list and mark off questions as they are answered.
  • You can get another opinion on the expertise and bedside manner of the surgeon. When you are the one doing the talking it is easy to miss things. Having another observer in the room can ensure you don’t miss any potential red flags.
  • If your partner is the one who will be helping you during recovery, they can start learning about the process and expectations early on.

The Cons:

  • You may hesitate to share details with your surgeon, such as those related to your medical history or even your motivations for seeking surgery.
  • Your partner will have their own opinions and may struggle to hold back, even when they really should.
  • You might feel pressured to get other surgeries or different implants than those you really want.

In the end, whether you should bring someone to a plastic surgery consult or not depends on what you need from them and what they are able to provide. Just remember: plastic surgery is for you, not a significant other or anyone else.
