For many years, BOTOX® has been the standard treatment for combating those pesky wrinkles. A simple injection and you can say goodbye to those wrinkles for 3 to 4 months before you need another treatment. But things seem to be changing.
The world of fancy facials, such as Gua Sha, seems to be taking over the market and persuading many to give up their injections for something different. But can these new facials really work better than BOTOX?
What About These Fancy Facials?
Facials are nothing new, and many med spa facilities offer them. But can a simple massage really make a difference? The answer may be yes. Gua Sha, for example, is completely non-invasive and utilizes a small tool that scrapes and massages the surface of the skin. This ancient Chinese technique promotes lymph drainage, improves facial blood flow and increases microcirculation. This can result in greater skin elasticity and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles over time. However, for continual results, it is recommended that Gua Sha be done on a regular, if not daily, basis.
But, if you are looking for a completely non-invasive method of wrinkle treatment and have given up on all the wrinkle creams, these fancy facials may be worth a try. IF they don’t work for you, you can always go back to BOTOX.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox works a little differently. With BOTOX, you receive injections into the face to reduce the muscle activity responsible for those wrinkles around the mouth and eyes where repeated muscle movement is to blame. Injections typically take 10 to 15 minutes and you see results within 1 to 2 days. And these results last 3 to 4 months before you need to come in for another treatment.
So, while the fancy facials do offer benefits over time, if you are looking for a quick fix to those troublesome wrinkles, changes are you might not want to ditch your BOTOX just yet.
