Instagram is great for posting your #swolematepics and sifting through cat photos. What it’s not good for is lining up your plastic surgeon for an upcoming boob job. In fact, only about 18 percent of Insta posts hashtagging tummy tucks, breast augs, lipo and other cosmetic procedures were from legit plastic surgeons.
So before you jump the gun and sign up for surgery based on an Instagram ad, read up on these three tips for how to pick a plastic surgeon who’s actually qualified.
Check for Qualifications
A quick internet search should be able to tell you most of what you need to know about your plastic surgeon before deciding whether or not you should consider scheduling a consultation with them. Look for memberships to reputable medical organizations such as the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Medical Association.
Obviously, your plastic surgeon should have also completed medical school and residency programs, both of which should be listed on their website.
Dig around for Online Reviews
Who doesn’t love online reviews? You can find advice from real people on just about anything these days, including your plastic surgeon.
Look for reviews on a plastic surgeon’s website, but also from third-party online review sites to be sure they’re from real people.
Look for a Plastic Surgeon in Your Area
There’s no need to travel to another country for your boob job or other plastic surgery, even if the “deal” seems impossible to beat. Medical tourism is a big no-no and will likely end up costing you more time and money and potentially even your safety in the long run.
